Abster

Made by Jakabi Designed Professional clay modeler. He produced a kit to go on the mgf / Tf that was not a copy of any car
this kit totally transforms the mgf/Tf. Jakabi designed and WR Composites have teamed up to produce and fit the Abster kit
we will be looking at selling the kit for customers to put on them self or we fit the kit to the car itself and have it painted if required. We will build a package for customers requirements.

custom seat mould and parts

We got approached by a company (design Q ) over the years we have done many projects for them and the quality of work they require is at a very high standard, and they generally come to us when it’s a tricky project they working on, they dropped the seat of to us which is a little unusual for the kind of work they normally do, had to make a mould and 2 seat which was handed, within a very short space of time, the surface finish does not look that good, in this case it was being painted as there was no time to paint the pattern.

carbon Kevlar panels

We have here a custom part, not sure what this is actually for,
We were given a cardboard temple and asked to make these patterns and moulds to produce 2 light weight strong carbon Kevlar panels. These panels are not clear coated, they came straight out of the mould.

Victorian House Project

Here we have one of our unusual jobs a builder came to me after some light weight panels for a Victorian house, they did not have a good enough panel to take a mould from, so we had them 3d scanned and CNC moulds cut to give it an authentic look I used a different way of sealing the moulds so it gave a stain finish not a gloss finish that most people are after.
When the builder came to collect them he was very surprised that we managed to create exactly what he wanted with a finish he was not expecting.

Custom Trailer

Here we have a custom built trailer by a customer who wanted it fibre glassed and flow coated on the outside only they wanted a rustic look so a brush finished suited the customers’ requirements.

Custom Control Box

Here we have a one off custom control box Made to a budget,
To cut a lot of the cost out of making a pattern and making a mould I simply made a wooden mould that would be good enough for one job, so saving a big cost on making a pattern and a mould this customer was very happy we could do this way.
There was just a bit of finishing to do after as they wanted a high gloss finish,
The box had maxim outside dimension which made this an easier on to make, with a reset lid to be screwed down so it was flush all the way around they did not want the bolts to counter sink they requested these to be left proud.

Custom Chair

With one of our regular customers they asked us to mould a chair project that they got involved with,
They supplied us a cnc pattern which we primed and painted and got ready to take the mould from it,
Which we have done and made a few parts as they were impressed with the way the project went.
On this particular job we used our own in house made locating lugs as I wanted to have a true fit all the way around without any movement so you don’t have miss in lineament that you usually get from just nuts and bolts, and they work very well all the jobs I have used these on they always given a really nice split line.

Custom Centre Console

Sometimes I get phone calls and emails enquiring if I am willing to take on certain projects as they are not that big of a project, and this is one of them, a customer wanted to have a custom centre control section in grp colour matched to his inertia of the car that is already in there, he had been searching for a few years looking around uk and nobody would take this on for them, when he approached us I had no issue in making the part they wanted.

Custom basketball hoop

Here at WR Composites have done some interesting project over the years and this when we received the email we thought it was a of our customers playing a joke on us, subject was custom baseball hoop for a yacht, for us we was thinking why would you pay to have this made when you can buy a ready built from any sport toy store.
In fact it was something a customer wanted making, when they gave us the time scale it was actually unachievable, 6 weeks we had to design and manufacture this project this was from point of contact,
On top of this there were no drawings to go off or could we go visit the yacht it was in another country.
Knowing it be a challenge on time alone we agreed to quote the job they approved with in minutes then we set to work,
We started from some sketchy drawings just to get the approval on the design we came up with, they were happy with what I have drawn up. For the Propper cad drawings I used another company that we do a lot of work with, also as the roof panel was so critical I had them make the jigs.
This was mostly to cut down time on the build itself as we had 2 weeks just all the custom carbon tubing which was built in house.
With this project we had to make the roof panel, which had a shorter tube permanently attached to the roof plate, and a 3 meter tube which was detachable and the basketball board to be able to move up and down so they can change the hight of the board to suit what they wanted, also the board needed to come of the 3 meter tube. As if the time scale was not tight enough.
One all the drawings had been approved and the angel of the roof of the sample we sent off had been approved we continued with the build, there are series of photos of the build it self,
We only had time to put the first clear coats on the finished part as it had to be delivered as soon as it was dry. Due to the rush of getting a delivery sorted out we never got a chance to take any finished photos as was expecting some once it was set up on the yacht.

CNC Bespoke set of parts

Not actually sure what this was for, the customer has allowed me to put the moulding process on my website.
In the photos are some CNC cut tools that I primed and painted so I was able to take a set of vinyl ester mouldings of them, we also did make the parts from these moulds but was not able to post the photos to show it.
We were grateful enough they allowed us to post as much as we have.

Carbon Brake Ducts

This is an old production run for some carbon brake ducts for a racing team made in high temperature resin post cured to 250c maximum the resin would go to.

Carbon Rear diffuser

In the photos below we have a mould which was made in house to produce a small production run of carbon fibre light weight rear diffusers using a resin infusion process.

Carbon Kevlar / Race Car Inner Cover Panels

One of our long established customers came to me asking for a custom inner panels they gave us the dimensions and we made the pattern and moulds along with a pair of carbon/ Kevlar inner panels cut to size one they had been and cheeked the measurements, some we do this as the customer not sure there self what the correct sizes are, so we cut while they wait.

Carbon Fibre Parts

Here are some of the smaller parts we have made.
These are wet lay manufactured then moved on to pre-prg once we brought the small oven.

Bespoke car interior

In the images there is a bespoke set of car interior mounds.
These were quite complicated to make as a lot of these moulds were made totally in closed.
We also made the parts for this project, and the customer was very happy with the way it all fitted together.

Barge Window

Here we have a barge that had the windows ripped off and could no longer find a replacement.
This was an unusual project for us to do neither the we looked in to it and found it was something we could help with, this was done on a small budget, simple was all they wanted.
And these needed to collapse with ease for going through the tunnels on the canals as it was tight enough fit as it was.

Rudder

Here as some custom parts for a Victorian house that was being refurbished

They could no longer get those panels so came to use to have them made,.
We got the panels scanned and CNC cut as the originals were not suitable to take a mould from, the rosette had a rubber mould casted over it and they were resin cast parts, where the other panels were fibreglass parts.
This small project was a nice one to work on.

Tractor Repair

We had a customer looking to have his damaged roof to be repaired,
Although this is a fairly straight forward repair to carry out it still Had it challenges,
There no colour code for the paint so that needed matching and it was still attached to the tractor so had to work on this while on the vehicle,
Not being able to take the roof with me to the paint shop I managed to get a tiny piece and go to the paint shop and get a colour from the chip, after some time as you can see it was a perfect match.

More Motorhome

Another Motorhome

This motor home had a small incident while reversing and caught the edge of the something, although this is a small amount of damage it still requires a lot of work to get the finish looking good.
This part of the vehicle was painted, and we could not get a close match on a colour chip so we made the colour in house to get a perfect match.

Motorhome

Here we have a camper van that the customer had tried to repair himself.
The rear moulding/ bumper is a plastic moulding and sometimes its not easy to fix the plastic parts.
Having the ability to weld plastic does make our life a bit easier so it enables us to repair not only fiberglass but plastic also.
Colour matching the paint on a plastic part is also difficult to get the right colour.
Like on many of our jobs we don’t guarantee a 100% colour match, however this is something that we do push for and aim to achieve on every job we do.
You can see for yourself on photos below how close we get the colours.
This motor home had a mixture of plastic and fiberglass repairs to carry out.

Another Horse Box

Here we have a horse box that had various damage around it on the fiberglass and aluminium panels,
The fiberglass panel did not look as bad as it was in the photos as fiberglass when damaged does grows bigger than it shows at the start, this a common issues with fiberglass and in some cases it can be damaged under the gelcoat and only shows when the gelcoat is removed.

Horse Box

Here we have a horse box that has the side door damaged,
The repair it self was fairly easy to do the paint work was a bit more tricky,
We were not given any colour codes, so we had to colour match the grey and the silver which was somewhat challenging, and then get the original design put back on the side of the door, after losing a large area of the design.

Caravan Small Damage

Here we have a caravan that had some small damage and most of it was not visible to eye
We had to use a black powder to show the customer how big the area was,
They were very surprised at the size of the star cracking.
As you can see the work carried out is at our usual standard, as there is only one that we work to.

Custom Lightweight Seat

Custom can for a show

Had the can drooped off to us, the company who made this did a very poor job, as it was meant to be round. It was nothing like round after a lot of sanding, we re-worked the can to a round shape then painted the can so that it can be wrapped for display.

One of our strangest request

A customer wanted to remake the centre console in his car, we modelled up the changes they wanted, made a mould from it and made a fibreglass part, once the part was fitted out to how the customer wanted it, we then went on to finish it.

Sometimes we get asked to wrap fibreglass parts in carbon fiber

This is something that is not easy to do as getting the cloth to stay where you need it, is not always easy, like most things made in carbon fiber, this is a very timely task to do and sometimes the customer doesn’t appreciate the amount of time that goes in to doing this, here are some examples of parts that we have wrapped and finished in a high standard clear coat.

Marine Custom Parts

We are able to make any custom carbon part you require. Here are some examples of some of the parts we have made.

  • General Marine Parts
  • Spinnaker Poles
  • Jib Sticks
  • Rudder Stocks
  • Wafer

Here we have a few wayfears that had been vandalised,
These boats are not in the greatest condition, that does not stop us from doing the best job we can possible do, this is a gelcoat finish boat and the green strip is also coloured match to get a perfect colour,
On the blue boat any one that has ever tried to colour match blue even more dark blue will know what a challenge it is to archive, with some perseverance and patience we managed to get the colour spot on.

    Sup Boards

Here we have some Standup padel boards,
These are quite tricky to repair as the core inside melts if you use the wrong resin or it gets to hot which will distort the board and melt the core at the same time, once you have the repair completed you then have the finishing to match with boards not only are you trying to match the colours you also matching the design best we can, and this comes with a lot of challenges,
Here are some examples of some easy boards to repair.

Solo Bow Repair & Non Slip

Here we have a fairly straight forward repair as the damage goes, however the colour makes this repair extremely difficult, its not black it’s a very dark green/ brown colour with other colours in it as well, this was one of our hardest colours to match also took a while to achieve the colour,
Also the deck on this solo was also a challenge. These were not easy colours to match. After some tinkering to get the right colour we managed to get an excellent match.
As we don’t give up easily with getting the right colours our customers tend to come back as nobody wants a repair that is visible, doing this makes our customer very happy, to a point this particular customer has been back many times to have work carried out on their other boats.

    Non Slip Solo

Here we have a floor of a solo that needed the non slip replacing as it had worn out

    RS400

Here we have a RS400 with a split centre board case,
This is one of those repairs which can not be repaired without going through the hull,
Normally the joint has gone and in some cases like this one the inner flange which joins the deck and hull together is not wide enough to have enough bonding compound to take load.
By cutting into the hull it allows us to re-fill the joint and reinforce the area down the length of the centre board case, permanently bonding the hull and deck together and this would not split again.

    RS300

On the older boats the wood inside the hull is now going rotten and once this has happened the mast post is no longer attached to anything which enables it to move around under load resulting to loss of power loss of pointing and loss of speed and a very leaky boat taking on lots of water over the day sailing, on some repairs like leaking boats we always leak test them first to be sure what we are fixing is the right issue as you can see from the photos there is bubbles being blown from the mast post drainage hole, which means the wood is now rotten there and needs a fairly big operation to rectify the issue, as you can see from the photos how big a job this is, once this is done you boat will not suffer from this issue again, at the same time we bond the mast post to the hull and you have a much more responsive feel while sailing.
On the other RS 300 in the photos is another common problem the centre stringer gone rotton and the cockpit floor becoming detached also causing a soft floor eventually causing the cockpit floor to delaminate and brake up, the RS 300 in the photos had this problem left which turned in to a lot of work, unfortunately for my customer they brought the boat in this condition not realising how big a job it is to have fixed correctly.

    RS600

    Here we have a RS600
With the common issue of the U bolt coming very lose, this is caused by the wood on the inside has gone rotten and the force of the kicker has compressed the rotten wood, if not sorted eventually it pulled through, there a few ways to tackle this which could help for the short term, we like to not cut corners on every aspect of our repairs, for us we cut a hole in the hull to gain access to the U bolt easily, taking out all the rotten wood and replacing it with solid Fiber glass plate, once the work is completed fill the hole back in make structurally sound and complete the repair,
In this instant the customer wanted us to refurb the hull as well in gelcoat which is a lot of work on the finishing side, as you can see from the photos the hull looked amazing and also very true and flat.

    Mirical

Here we have a Mirical that got blown over in the storm,
On this boat there are some very hard colours to match, the darker greys are harder to match and again the blue is difficult as it does not like being tinted, after some perseverance we manged to get the right colours for the boat.
The board on top was also the customers and being repaired also, as I was working on both it was a safe place to leave it without getting damaged.

    Boat Paint Jobs

    New build international 14

I helped build the international 14 full carbon foam sandwich construction.
After building the craft I then filled and faired the boat, sorted the paint design and painted the hull.

    Catamaran

Hull impact and cracked the strut inside, took out the damage and fixed the hole.
Gelcoat is coloured matched in house.

    Jet ski repair

After a jet ski hit a tree branch and made quite a mess of the ski, the customer thought his jet ski was a right off,
After having a good look it we could see this was repairable, the tricky part of the job was getting the colour right, on this occasion the customer wanted to use his own painter, although we can do the paint work, I don’t stop customers wanting to use there own painters, we got the jet ski repaired and prep for painting.
We premiered the jet ski ready for them to take over.

    Roof of a River Boat

Here are some photos of a roof of a river boat that was leaking due to the angel of the roof, after starting the repair it looked like the roof sectioned had been repaired before, after stripping the fiber glass back it came apparent that the main structure of the roof panel was all rotten, the wood was removed and rebuilt in a better non absorbent material, we put the roof angle back to a decent pitch so the water ran off it and not in to it, filled a lot of the holes so the customer can re-drill the holes again, colour matched the boat for the gelcoat and redone the gelcoat over the whole roof.

    fridge for yacht

Customer had a lid of a fridge for his yacht, the lid was cracked all over, we took the cracks out, refiber glassed the area, colour matched the gelcoat for the lid then recoated the lid and polished it up.

    New Paint Jobs

    Rs Aero

Here we have a RS aero with slight damage to the transom of the boat.
We do repair a lot of these and all have been through collision damage.
These boats are built very well for how light they are built the down side to keeping them light is they get damaged very easy, here a repair that only small amount of damage, and we had to replace the decals as well.

Also have a RS aero that hit something in the water and broke the transom,
The best way to fix this is to cut a hole in the transom so you can get access to the pintel and support plate, for this boat it was actually missing, so we put a full transom plate in so the full transom takes the load not the pintel area, in doing this you lose the foil alignment,
As you can see we reset the aliment before we finish the repair, this is so we can set and bond the nuts in place and the plate is also tapped so there is a thread holding the blots not just the nuts.

    Boston whaler transom up grade

Had a customer who wanted to convert his boston whaler from a in bord engine to a out board engine.
When they fitted the out board engine on the back of the transom they noticed the transom was not strong enough to carry the weight, so we went to work and rebuilt the structure in the transom so they could mount the engine on and it be solid with no movement, and building a water tray and modifying the lid to keep the water out the back of the boat, and finishing it in gelcoat colour matched to the original boat

    Carbon mast repair

Here we have a RS300 mast which has split due to the roller on the mast has punched through the side wall this is was due a bad capsize close to shore,
It did manage to split all the way through the wall and damaged the foot of the mast also,
Although this is not broken, the repair we have tom carry out is close to having a broken mast.

    505 repair

Here we have an older 505 the boat holds a lot of sentimental value to the customer and he wanted to have tidy up redo some of the old repairs and try and find the leeks.
The 505 had been raced hard also there had been a few repairs that needed redoing.
Due to the age of the boat it was impossible to colour match we did try for serval weeks to get the colour and could not even get close, this was mostly due to the colour keep changing as we was testing the colour, the gelcoat is off a age where the uv stabilisers would not off been added in,
We do like to repair the boats in the original material it comes to us, in this case we had to opt for painting the boat, the customer was not to convinced with this option, once we explained the reason why they agreed.
Even Though we went for a painted option it still did not make life easy we had to get a colour that would match, there was no colours on the colour chart or was there a colour chip even close.
We chose a colour and then had to tint it back at the work shop to get a colour I was happy that would blend in.
The results was a perfect match and the customer was blown away with the results.

    Jet ski repairs

Here we have 2 jet skis. The black one had a heavy impact on the front. As you can see, it did a lot of damage, we rebuilt the front and got the shape back into it making it structurally sound.
The painting of this craft was fairly easy for a change; it was straight black.

    Boat Repairs
